How to Start and Stick with Clean Eating for Beginners

End the Start/Stop Cycle

The older you get, the more conscious you should start to get the food you’re putting in your body. You’ve grown up on a diet filled with junk and processed foods. It’s about time you start feeding your body something that is going to expand your life, working out every day isn’t going to be enough.

Eating clean is a type of lifestyle that you need to adapt to. You don’t have to think of it as dieting. You are just going to start providing your body with better nutrients so that it can function better in the long run.

Don’t worry, if you feel like you’re “too old” to change your body, you’re completely wrong. It’s never too late to make a change to your body no matter how much you’ve done to it already. You might just need to focus on your eating habits a little more than some people.

Clean eating will allow you to become much more energized, healthier, and feel like a new person. It can even help you if you are looking to lose weight and keep it off. If you’re looking to speed up your weight loss process through clean eating, you should check out the ketogenic diet.

For those of you that have tried and failed at diet plans in the past, this article is not a diet plan. This article is just a list of tips of ways that can allow to start to change your life around when it comes to the food you’re eating.

Eating Clean

As mentioned above, most of you are probably consuming junk food and a lot processed foods on a regular basis. When you are eating clean, you are going to be able to kick this habit of shoving junk down your throat.

Hydration

Drink water for clean eating success

Keeping your body well hydrated is something that can immensely help you when you are trying to start eating clean. It will also help when you are trying to do what you can to maintain this lifestyle down the road.

One rule of thumb that can assure that you’re well hydrated is drinking half your body weight in ounces. So, for example, I am currently 180 pounds so if I drink at least 90 ounces of water in a day, my body is more than well hydrated.

The amount of water you should consume in a day varies from person to person and depends a lot on your activity level. Don’t think that if you aren’t active, you aren’t losing water so you get to drink less of it. The people that aren’t active need to be even more conscious about drinking water because it can be easy for them to forget.

Number of Meals

There are going to be people out there that tell you if you want to maintain a certain level healthiness you need to consume a larger amount of meals a day.

Don’t listen to these claims.

The thing that truly matters is what you eat and the number of calories you take in. The number of meals you eat isn’t going to assure that your body is healthier.

When you eat more meals throughout the day, the only thing you are going to do is probably speed up your metabolism a little but this could also lead to overeating. Even overeating when you’re eating healthy foods can be a negative thing to put your body through.

If you can help it, don’t focus on how many meals you’re eating as long as you are getting the number of calories you need with the healthy food.

There is a process called intermittent fasting in which you only eat for a small time frame in your day and during the rest of the 24 hour period, you aren’t eating any food. Like many other dieting methods, this method has been proven to help people lose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle as well.

So again, the number of meals you consume in a day does not matter in the long run of things as long as you are consuming the proper foods in the right amounts.

Cut Down on Carbs and Sugars

clean eating

Think about every meal you’ve eaten today, you’ve probably consumed quite a bit of carbs, whether that be bread or some kind of pasta. As delicious as these foods are, eating too much of them are going to harm you in the long run.

Yes, they can definitely fit into your clean eating lifestyle but this is something you need to really watch when it comes to the amount you are consuming. Carbs are going to eventually convert into fat when it gets processed in your body unless you are able to burn it off almost immediately. For those of you that think that can do that, it’s a near-impossible task.

This is part of the reason why a lot of health professionals say the journey to a better body starts in the kitchen.

Sugars and added sugars are something you need to significantly cut back on as well. Like carbs, sugars are going to turn into fat when they are processed by your body. This makes them much harder to burn off through physical activity.

So, for those that love to eat stuff like fruits, you need to be careful. Although fruits don’t have added sugars, they have plenty of natural sugars that can cause a problem for you if you aren’t careful. These low sugar fruits are going to be good when you need that quick sugar fix.

This is why ketogenic diets are so effective. Your body tends to usually burn off sugars first, but on a keto diet, your body will start to burn fat before anything else. Keto diets are going to reduce your carb and sugar intake while helping you lose weight and drastically improve your overall health.

This is why you need to know what foods are good for you. These low carb vegetables are a great place to start.

Sticking to It

Like most other things you do with your life, the beginning is always going to be fun and easy to stick to. It’s fresh and new and you have all the motivation in the world to succeed.

The problems come a little later down the road when you start losing that initial drive or slight boredom comes into play. All of a sudden things become harder and you start slipping back into old habits.

So how do you maintain the motivation you had when you first started this clean eating process? How do you make sure this is a permanent lifestyle change?

Clean the Pantry

Before you even have your first clean meal, you need to set yourself up for success. This starts with what you already have in your home, namely the pantry.

You need to go into your pantry and throw out any junk food or any “guilty pleasure” foods that will tempt you to go off track.

If the foods aren’t physically in front of you, they will be much easier to resist when you start to get those cravings because you will have those at the beginning of this process.

Meal Planning

Meal planning is going to save your life when you are starting a clean eating lifestyle.

A lot of people in this world function better on a schedule and meal planning is essentially your eating schedule. You have everything laid out in front of you for the next days so there will be much less of a hassle when it comes wondering what your next meal is.

When you have to think about exactly what you’re going to eat, it’s much easier for your mind to wander off and think about all those unhealthy foods you are probably missing. Having the meals already cooked will help you stay on track and keep your mind at peace with your food.

Change Your Life

Clean eating may not come easy for you, but it’s something that you may need to do to really change your life around.

Don’t ever think it’s too late to start a new lifestyle, especially when it comes to your health.

There are healthy foods out there that you are guaranteed to love. For all of your unhealthy foods that you love, there is a healthy alternative that you can have. All you need to do is search and find it.

Clean eating will eventually become a habit and you’ll be kicking all the old problems you had in the past.
