9 Symptoms of Leaky Gut That Prove You Actually Have It

You may have heard of the problem of leaky gut. But what is leaky gut?

It’s something that definitely doesn’t sound appealing. I don’t know about you but I don’t have a very good image pop into my head when leaky gut is mentioned.

It’s very possible to have a leaky gut and not even realize it. There’s no way for you to look inside your stomach on a daily basis without being in a hospital so it’s understandable if you have it and don’t realize it.

Leaky gut is something that affects a lot of people. It’s important to understand the signs for leaky gut syndrome.

Leaky Gut Symptoms

When you have a leaky gut, it’s because the lining of your small intestines is damaged. This causes some undigested food particles, toxic waste, and bacteria to leak through intestines and get into your bloodstream.

Having all of these things in your bloodstream is going to cause your body some issues. Your body is going to try and fix the things it sees as a problem. This means that it’s going to try and get rid of the food particles, bacteria, and toxic waste.

It’s going to be difficult for this to happen. Your body will react to the “foreign” substances that are now in your bloodstream. When it can’t eliminate the problem quickly, you will start to experience some health issues.

When this happens, you might start to think about whether or not you could’ve seen the signs that led to these issues.

Below you’ll see the leaky gut symptoms that will be present so you can try to answer the question of “how to heal leaky gut” down the road.

Headaches and Memory Loss

leaky gut symptoms

Headaches can be caused by a number of different reasons. You can have one due to stress or dehydration. I’m also sure that you’ve noticed that some headaches feel different than others and some are located in different parts of your head.

The location of your headache is due to what exactly is wrong with you at the moment. However, when this headache is accompanied by a slight memory loss, it could be because of a leaky gut.

A healthy gut is going to be sending signals to your brain that keep it firing on all cylinders. However, with a leaky gut, the signals your brain could be getting will be different than the ones it should be getting.

This “misfiring” of signals can actually throw off your memory, thus causing you to experience some memory loss. It’s not going to be anything extreme, but you could forget something that you said you needed to do about 5 minutes ago.

Excessive Fatigue

We all get tired from time to time. Everyone experiences a bit of fatigue every once in a while, but when you feel yourself being excessively tired, leaky gut syndrome could be the reasoning.

You aren’t going to just wake up tired, but you’ll be overly tired for seemingly no reason. This tired feeling could happen even when you haven’t been active at all throughout the day. That’s a better indication that something is wrong and you might have a leaky gut.

If your body is absorbing the nutrients it should from the foods you’re eating, even if you don’t have the healthiest diet, you should never feel excessively fatigued. There is something leaking into your bloodstream preventing your body from getting what it needs to run like a well-oiled machine.

Skin Rashes

Your skin can be one of the biggest indications of a leaky gut. Having leaky gut syndrome can cause your skin to break out relatively randomly. Whether it’s acne or eczema, your skin is going to seem like it doesn’t like you when you have a leaky gut.

Blood flows throughout your body. We’ve all seen how close our blood actually is in relation to our skin. So, it only makes sense that however healthy our blood is can actually affect how healthy our skin is.

When you have all of that extra waste flowing through your body, your skin is going to react. It might not be in specific areas either, it could be in places you wouldn’t expect it to be or could be all over.

Either way, having skin rashes and random reactions can be a telling sign of a leaky gut.

Joint Pain

leaky gut symptoms

Pain in your joints is something that can come with age. However, that’s something that should really come much later in life.

Having these kinds of pains always sucks because you’re going to feel the pain in every movement you make. It’s nearly impossible to avoid when you have it.

Joint pain can happen because of what is going on in your bloodstream. Your leaky gut is pouring out things into your blood that is basically preventing your joints from getting the lubrication that it needs.

People usually have joint pain when there is inflammation in the joint areas. These areas are inflamed because you don’t have proper blood flow and your blood is filled with stuff that shouldn’t be there.

Having a leaky gut puts toxins in your blood and cause your blood to be less healthy, thus leading to joint pain that you probably shouldn’t be experiencing.

Anxiety

Anxiety is having a feeling of worry, nervousness, or uneasiness. People usually get this feeling when there is a big moment that’s about to happen in their lives.

The thing about feeling anxious is that it’s a feeling that develops in the brain. Your brain releases certain chemicals that cause you to have this anxious feeling.

However, this can be traced back to something like having a leaky gut. We already know that a leaky gut can cause problems with certain signals being sent to your brain. This is also true when it comes to anxiety.

Because of a leaky gut, your brain is going to be getting signals sent to it that probably shouldn’t be sent. This could lead to the brain producing certain chemicals that cause you to get an anxious feeling.

Bowel Issues

With a leaky gut, you can assume that you aren’t going to get the type of nutrition you need because you have a lot of food particles leaking into your bloodstream.

When you aren’t able to digest your food properly or get the type of nutrients you need from the food you’re eating, you are more than likely going to experience some bowel issues.

Going down, there won’t be any problems with the food. However, when it wants to come out, there could be some issues.

You might experience problems ranging from diarrhea to constipation and anything in between. These are issues that nobody wants to deal with because it just makes your everyday life that much more of a struggle.

Carb and Sugar Cravings

leaky gut symptoms

If anybody knows a thing or two about having sugar cravings it’s me. Carb cravings are a real thing too. This typically happens when you the bad bacteria that live in your gut are starting to thrive.

However, there are times that when you have a leaky gut, that will cause you to want nothing but carbs and sugar. A fun fact, carbs get converted into sugar when they are already in your body.

A leaky gut means that you have bad bacteria thriving in your gut and, more than likely, in your bloodstream as well. This is going to lead you to crave all kinds of sweets. If you already have a sweet tooth then expect this to get much worse.

It might make it so you don’t want anything else other than sugars and carbs and that can lead to some serious health problems if you don’t keep an eye on it.

Getting Sick More Often

With a leaky gut, your body will tend to break down a little bit more. You will be more susceptible to sickness.

When you have toxins leaking into your bloodstream, your immune system will slowly become weaker.

Your body won’t be able to fight as effectively as it used to. You have bacteria leaking into your bloodstream, along with toxins that are only meant to stay in your gut.

Having things like this leak and spread throughout your body will prevent you from staying as healthy as you should.

Nutritional Deficiencies

By now you should recognize that having a leaky gut is going to cause a lot of issues. Even if leaky gut didn’t cause things to leak into your bloodstream, it stops you from fully digesting all of your food.

When you can’t digest your food fully, you don’t get as much nutrition as you need. Your body won’t get everything it needs.

Not being able to get the nutrition you need from the foods you eat will lead to nutritional deficiencies that will cause you to have even more health issues along with other ones that happen because of a leaky gut.

Leaky Gut Sucks

Having a leaky gut is something that can change the way you go about living your everyday life.

A lot of the time, people don’t even realize they have a leaky gut. However, when you look at these leaky gut symptoms, you’ll know for sure.

The signs above will allow you to know that something is wrong with your gut. This will allow you to get the jump on making things better before they get any worse.
